Hi, my name is Mary Gatua. I moved to Dubuque because of a job, I am a professor at Clarke University. When I came for the interview I loved the city and the university. Dubuque is not a big city, so it’s a very good city to raise kids. Because the university is very small, it gives you a chance to get out and interact with the community, which I love.
I’m extremely passionate about diversity, multiculturalism, and social justice. I am a social justice advocate for the minority population, specifically for people of color. I’m African, and I have been in this country for a long time, but being African is still a large part of my identity.
