Hi, my name is Alan Garfield. I’m not from Dubuque but I moved here simply for a job. I am a teacher and I was at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a lovely school, and city. I took a look at Dubuque. Specifically the University of Dubuque, but the colleges and the city itself and I liked the potential of moving to a town where I could make a difference teaching students and interacting individually with small numbers of people. So we moved here 18 years ago and we like Dubuque.

I would describe myself as a pleasant, old guy who will probably invade someone’s personal space when talking to them and asking questions about them. I love culture. I love to read, travel and visit museums. I love to sit outside with my wife drinking coffee at 5 a.m. listening to the birds.
